Election: 'Fear and loathing' reprised in 2016
As The News Tribune reprises Garry Trudeau’s tribute to Uncle Duke this week in “Doonesbury,” it is apt to remember Hunter S. Thompson’s seminal volume on American politics, “Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail ’72.”
It was the first book to expose the soft underbelly of our insane manner of choosing our leaders. And it could not be more topical today as many of us look on at the current Republican primary race with a mixture of dazed shock, horror and amusement.
