Transgender: Say no to 'self-identity' fad
Re: “We must protect rights of society’s marginalized” (TNT, 2-29).
According to Andrea Piper-Wentland, the controversial Human Rights Commission rule does not require a transgender person “to have had medical intervention or surgery” to enter a restroom or locker room of the opposite gender.
I’m sorry, but that doesn’t work for me. A transgender person with male anatomy who undresses in front of women and girls is still exposing himself. It doesn’t matter if he claims to be transgender. He still has male body parts, a male bone structure and muscle mass, a male reproductive system and XY chromosomes.
Furthermore, if these anatomically correct males are given a “right” to use female restrooms and locker rooms, no legal argument can stop other men from claiming discrimination if their access is denied.
The unscientific and ungrammatical “self-identity” fad should not be used as a basis for granting rights and privileges.
A blonde, blue-eyed Caucasian woman is not African-American just because she says so. An anorexic girl is not fat just because she perceives herself to be. Males are not females and vice versa.
Legal identities must be based on permanent and duly recorded biological, medical and historical facts, not on oral claims or subjective emotions.
