KPLU: Now is the time to object to station sale
While Friends of 88.5 is well on the way to raising the $7 million needed to purchase KPLU ($2 million in hand), the University of Washington and Pacific Lutheran University pressing forward with their transaction.
The application for approval has been submitted to the Federal Communications Commission, and the public comment period opened Feb. 9. KPLU fans need to wake up: The public comment period closes March 10 (although mail can trickle in thereafter).
Folks wanting to save KPLU should now tell the FCC why the PLU/UW deal is not in the public interest.
Listener dollars built the station into what it is today. Mail-in comments (original and two copies) go to 445 12th St. SW, Washington, D.C. 20554, and they must reference the file number. It is FCC Proceeding File No. BALED-20160204AFY.
Or comment online at www.fcc.gov; click on File a Public Comment, and then click on “Filing an Informal Consumer Complaint.”
PLU and UW are playing lip service to the community while forging ahead at the FCC level, wasting our federal tax dollars on matters that the FCC might not even need to address since UW pledged to step aside in favor of a community purchase that’s now only $5 million away.
