Scouts: Camp closure news met with sadness

Re: “Boy Scouts camp closures upset local communities” (TNT, 3-7).

It was with great sadness that I read of the closure of Camp Hahobas on Hood Canal, as well as the sale of timber from the property.

My father would be devastated. He put his heart and soul into developing that Scout camp from nothing but a hunk of land. From water lines to waterfront, from mess hall to swimming docks, he and dozens of volunteers developed a first-rate camp.

I am sure that thousands of young men read that piece with the same sadness. So would have Herb West, the Scout executive of the Mount Rainier Council at the time.
