Fire: Tragedy reminds of alarms' importance

I was devastated to read of the deaths of three young children in a March 4 house fire (TNT, 3-7). Apparently, they were sleeping upstairs while their mother slept downstairs and a fire smoldered close to the front door.

This is a tragic reminder of the importance of maintaining smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in our homes.

Residents can use Sunday’s shift to daylight saving time to test alarm batteries as they move their clocks forward. Test again in the fall when we set our clocks back.
