GHarbor: Public safety must be top priority

The Gig Harbor City Council gave a green light to the development of a store and homes near the intersection of Peacock Hill Road and Borgen Drive.

Two days after the clear-cutting that destroyed the wind break along Peacock Hill Road, a wind and rain storm sent branches all over the road. On March 1, a very large tree fell across the road and severed power lines.

There has been one death, one house damaged, a road blocked and a power outage so far because of those developments.

When will the City Council put the safety of the public ahead of corporate interests? Something needs to be done to increase the size of buffer zones between roads and developments.
