“What you reap, you shall sow.” And the Republican conservative base has been sowing the seeds of their own destruction for eight years.
They have shouted that the country is broken and is no longer great. They have stymied any attempt to correct problems through legislation for fear that President Obama would get the credit. They have blamed immigrants, Muslims and Washington insiders for the country’s perceived problems. And a segment of the population has heard them.
Now their leading candidate, Donald Trump, is the personification of their discontent, and the more pragmatic members of their party are scrambling to stop him. He leads in the Republican race because he parrots everything that has been shouted by conservative members of Congress, right-leaning pundits and Fox News, whether accurate or not.
“If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.” Guess who said that.
