Transit: Light-rail plans need to be flexible
Re: “$50B light-rail plan eyes DuPont, Orting” (TNT, 3-25).
I read with interest the proposed plan for the next 25 years and agree that it is necessary. However I note that the $50 billion price tag is steep, but over 25 years not so bad.
However, one thing keeps me questioning. It seems like Sound Transit is making plans for what was needed yesterday and not delivering until tomorrow.
As we all know, the demographics can change over that period of time, and what looks good now may not be what is needed later. I wonder if the planners took that into account?
All that is good if the voters allow it, but what are the contingent plans for changes? Another thing not noted: The voters of today probably will never see the completion.
