Methanol: Reflect on more than the bottom line
Re: “Methanol pause is time to reflect” (Viewpoint, 4-3).
Is Bruce Kendall for real? No one in Tacoma believes that the largest methanol plant in the world is a good thing, unless they are making money from this.
If this is built, there will be no economy to develop. People will move (my family included), real estate values will fall, businesses will close. The area will be left a toxic dump where no one will want to work, live, play or visit.
The obscene use of water and electricity is just the start. The jobs are not promised; in fact in many “Chinese”-backed endeavors outside workers are employed.
In China, the human rights violations are almost unending. No, we do not want to do business with a country like that.
The plan to monitor this plant will be “off site.” The toxic pollutants will destroy the air and water. The risk of an industrial, environmental or terrorist disaster is high.
Northwest Innovation Works has been unable or unwilling to provide basic information to anyone. Kendall doesn’t seem to mind that, because all he can think about is the bottom line. He should be ashamed.
