Marijuana: Vote yes on advisory measure
We voters in unincorporated Pierce County just received special election ballots asking only one question: Do we affirm the County Council's decision to extend our already tight regulation of marijuana to the medical marijuana shops now popping up everywhere? The answer: Yes, of course.
Like it or not, marijuana is here. Vote yes for state-licensed marijuana stores that check identification and keep marijuana out of the hands of children.
Unfortunately, some on the County Council couldn't make this common sense decision without waffling. Worse, they wrote a confusing ballot.
In plain language: Do we want all marijuana sales to be tightly regulated? Of course we do. Voting Yes on 1 restores our vote for state-licensed stores, creating millions of dollars in new revenue to fund police, drug treatment and lower property taxes.
