Military: Auf wiedersehen, Leavenworth

With regard to opposition to Army helicopter training in the vicinity of Leavenworth (TNT, 4-6), I guess a little "whup-whup-whup" echoing through the canyons might ruin the ambience as Dad, Mom and the kids wolf down their formerly frozen schnitzel while listening to the authentic oom-pah band.

Of course, these same outdoor enthusiasts and Leavenworth business owners won't hesitate to call on these Army aviators to perform a mountain rescue or in case of wildfire or natural calamity.

I wonder what would happen if the local military community - active duty, National Guard, Reserves, veterans - from all services stood with their Army helo brothers and sisters to avoid the Leavenworth experience altogether?

Cancel the MWR tours? Get rid of their cute little brochures at the Navy Lodge? Have folks satisfy their insatiable urge for nutcrackers and beer steins online?

Maybe it's time to quit taking this stuff lying down.
