Free speech: All public employees entitled to it

After reading Dave Boling’s column (TNT, 5/10), I began to wonder who should be eligible to voice their opinions concerning politics and political candidates. Boling asks if it is it is appropriate for Washington State University football coach Mike Leach to endorse someone for office since Leach is paid by public funds.

I would ask if doubt should be cast on all people paid by taxpayer money. Would that include local public school employees? What about policemen and firemen? Should elected politicians refrain from endorsing candidates? The answer should be that there are no “exceptions” attached to the First Amendment.
