Auditor: How about a CPA, not a politician?
It appears most of the commotion concerning state Auditor Troy Kelley has died down, for now. Kelley is a lawyer and a politician, but we don’t know anything about his qualifications (if any) in the area of auditing.
It’s time we stop treating this position as nice job for those who are politically connected. We need to enact the requirement that the state auditor must have real-world auditing experience. I suggest we require any candidate to be a certified public accountant with at least several years of auditing experience. Aren’t we entitled to someone who is a professional versus the run-of-the-mill politician?
