Elephants: Burning tusks won't thwart poachers

Re: "From Tusks to Ashes." (TNT editorial, 5/10).

This is at least the second time this has been done and it hasn't stopped the poaching. It only drives up the price of ivory and makes it more lucrative for poachers. Maybe the president of Kenya is in cahoots with the poachers to keep prices high.

If they had put all of that ivory on the open market, it would drive prices down and make it less economical. This money could be used for enforcement, saving some of the animals. As it is, they died in vain, What a terrible tragedy.
