Election: Ballots are supposed to be private

I agree with the letter about declaring party affiliation on the primary ballot, (TNT, 5/12).

Since when do I have to declare my political party preferences to vote? My choice is my choice and is no one else’s business. Is this primary ballot paid for by the political parties or Washington taxpayers?

According to the instructions I have to declare a party or my vote won’t be counted. It won’t be counted now; it’s in the trash can.
