Trump: Do Republicans have a conscience?

I wonder if so many in the Republican seniority have a conscience. If they truly do, how can a rising tide of these people decide now to back Donald Trump after spending months during the primaries excoriating him? If they say things have changed their minds, I ask what specifically has occasioned the change?

Do they really want to see Trump elected, or is this simply “Well, anything is better than Hillary”? Even if they are petrified of a Clinton presidency, do they really believe Trump would make a good president? I say shame on Republican leaders for caring less about the future of the country and more about protecting their control of the House, Senate, and the Supreme Court.
