Hunger: School lunches leave some kids deprived

I am concerned about the children in the Puyallup School District who are going without lunches. It is district policy that if the child does not have enough lunch money in their account, they are to be given a high-grain granola bar and a milk; they are also allowed to call home. So many parents are in the middle-class income bracket and live paycheck to paycheck.

I am reaching out to try to find a solution to this problem. It is unreasonable to expect a child to learn while hungry, when children are already trying to balance so many other life issues. This could very well be the only meal the child eats, depending on the family situation. It is our job as a community to protect our most vulnerable and our future, in this case our hungry children.
