Auditor: It's absurd to retry Troy Kelley

I cannot believe that federal prosecutors are retrying Washington State Auditor Troy Kelley (TNT, 6/1).

The first trial cost taxpayers millions of dollars and ended in a hung jury because there was significant reasonable doubt on all charges. That ‘s why prosecutors were unable to make their case.

If reason were to triumph here, there would be no retrying of Troy Kelley; no willingness to spend millions more of our money going after Kelley and his family. It certainly makes me wonder how much this is about egos, vindictiveness and self righteousness. It’s certainly not about thoughtfulness or about what is best for our community. The decision to retry Troy Kelley is like shooting one’s foot in the name of Justice. We all lose.
