College: “Sober” dorms make mockery of educators

The creation of special “sober” dorms for students who actually want to study demonstrates just how corrupt and cynical our higher education system has become. First of all, providing these dorms for some students and not others is blatantly unequal treatment. All students should be granted the privilege of living and studying in a clean, quiet, safe environment, whether they like it or not.

Secondly, it shows that college administrators have clear knowledge of the alcohol and drug abuse taking place in regular dorms. By allowing such abuse to continue, these administrators are aiding and abetting criminal behavior. They are also colluding in the consequences of such behavior, including rapes and suicides.

Finally, students shouldn’t have to be former addicts to qualify for substance-free housing. True leaders do what’s right for everyone, not just for a few “victims” or special interest groups. All dorms should be sober dorms.
