Tacoma: Citizens must speak against council mismanagement
Every day I open the News Tribune, I am confronted with the City Council's total disregard for the will of the citizens of Tacoma. I pay an exorbitant amount of taxes to live in this city. I take the time to vote and participate in the concerns for our future. So do many other Tacoma residents. Why, then, do council members continue to make decisions contrary to the public they represent?
Why do they continue to spend our tax dollars for their own agendas? Why doesn't the money go to fixing the streets or beautifying the city (such as maintaining city property by mowing down the waist-high weeds along Vassault Street, for instance)? It is high time the residents of Tacoma start demanding that the council stop misspending our tax dollars, i.e. to defend public officials who clearly violate ethics. Look what happened when concerned citizens objected to the methanol plant.
In order to have a community that we are proud to reside in and which represents our interests, we must participate and make sure our voices are heard.
