Manners: Costco samplers need refresher course
Somehow I doubt that anyone jockeying for a place in a sample line at Costco is truly dying of hunger. Yet, curiously, chaos remains the daily spectacle where clearly well-fed adults bully their way into position to snatch a hot pocket. Now that school is out, it appears that those old enough to know better are too old to remember what it was like to be a child.
What has happened to patience as big-rig style carts motor through aisles and thoroughfares with nary a passing glance? Where are phrases like “sorry,” “pardon,” and “excuse me” to signal you’d like to get by, or have accidentally offended someone?
I get it. You’re on a mission. You’re sick of bratty kids running around. You’re deserving of a free sample, too. How about leading by example? What about remembering that patience is a virtue? What about watching where you’re going?
If you can’t make these changes permanently, take heart. Summer vacation will be over before you know it – and you big kids can have all those samples to yourselves.
