Shootings: Multiracial families live in constant fear
Along with so many others, I am greatly disturbed, saddened and disheartened by the racially motivated hatred and violence of the last few days (months/years). As a white member of a multi-racial family, I am filled with frustration, horror, disappointment and fear.
I am frustrated that we still live with deplorable racial inequity; horrified at the senseless killings and total disconnect between us, and deep wounds that still fester; disappointed that we must still scapegoat and harm those who may do or believe differently, or just look different from us. And I am fearful for the members of my own family, my son-in-law and grandchildren in danger of their losing their lives during a mere traffic stop.
This continuing divide is truly shameful. Each of us must lay down misunderstandings, listen with open hearts and join in speaking up to confront wrongful thinking. Each of us must denounce anger and violence. We are one people, equally created, equally necessary and equally valuable.
