Foster kids: CASA volunteers do vital work
Re: “Pierce sanctuary will house kids in foster system,” (TNT, 7/13).
Thanks to The News Tribune for bringing attention to the need for Pierce County foster homes, and for informing the public about the court appointed special advocate (CASA) program.
For those who cannot be a foster parent, CASA offers the opportunity to help a child who has been abused or neglected. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the happy outcome when a foster child returns home to a rehabilitated parent or, when that isn’t possible, is adopted into a loving, adoptive home.
No special skill or education is needed; CASA provides outstanding training and support. I have been a volunteer for several years, and would urge anyone who might be interested to consider becoming one.
