Persecution: U.S. Congress stands up for Falun Gong

Korine Wimbles, Eatonville

Persistence pays off. On June 13, the U.S. House unanimously passed Resolution 343, giving credence to the large amount of evidence that the Chinese government sanctions organ harvesting from non-consenting prisoners of conscience, the largest group being practitioners of Falun Gong. This is a Buddhist school teaching that consists of gentle exercises and meditation, and living by the principles of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance.

In 1999, there were approximately 100 million people practicing Falun Gong, outnumbering members of the Chinese communist party. Jiang Zemin, party leader, spearheaded the persecution of Falun Gong, making it a crime to practice it. In 2006, investigators found that Falun Gong were being killed and their organs harvested for transplantation. Huge profits were made.

Thanks to the representatives from Washington state who cosponsored and supported HR 343. Thanks to the Washington voters that contacted their representatives, urging them to vote for this resolution that calls on China to end the forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong and other prisoners of conscience.
