Fireworks: Change without enforcement is pointless

Re: “Speakers want peace and quiet,” (TNT, 8/23).

Having lived in rural Pierce County for almost 47 years, and having seen the current fireworks’ date/time regulations totally ignored due to law enforcement’s inability to enforce those regulations, I wonder what makes the County Council believe a one-day restriction is going to work?

Even if the regulation is approved, I believe rural residents will continue to face fireworks being set off starting the third week of July and continuing into August, at all times of the day and night, as happened in my area this morning.

Bottom Line: If enforcement staff isn’t provided with the regulation, don’t bother!
