Tideflats: Good business, clean ecology can co-exist
Thank you for the recent comprehensive news coverage (TNT, 8/21) and editorial (TNT, 8/23) regarding the past, present and future of the Tacoma Tideflats. The Sunday articles and photos are a must read for citizens who want to grasp the complexities of environmental and business sustainability in the South Sound. The TNT is to be commended for providing space for these pieces and giving its journalists time to dig deep.
And the editorial urging a more open process for vetting business uses considering Port property was spot on. Your argument for allowing all points of view at the table is precisely the recipe for ensuring the health of our economy grows hand in hand with the health of our environment. Great jobs and a great environment are not in competition; they are essential to one another.
We are fortunate to live in a place where high paying jobs of all kinds – industrial, office, and retail – can thrive together with a world-class ecosystem. With these ingredients working together, the future looks bright.
