This popular Olympic National Park beach will be closed for 3 months this summer
Those looking to visit Ruby Beach this summer will be out of luck as the National Park Service plans to close the beach for improvements.
Ruby Beach, which has ranked among the best beaches in the country, is located on the coast of the Olympic Peninsula and is part of Olympic National Park. The expected closure will start in May or June, according to a NPS news release.
No exact dates were provided, but the park service says more information will be shared closer to the start of the project.
The beach will be closed to allow crews to improve the gravel parking area and access road, according to the news release. This will include regrading and paving to improve drainage, accessibility and traffic flow.
A trail from the overlook to the beach will remain open during the project, the release says. Beach access will be available south of Ruby Beach at Beaches 1-4 and the Kalaloch Campground.
Visitors also can access the coast north of Ruby Beach through LaPush at Rialto Beach and First, Second and Third Beaches.
More information on park closures can be found the Olympic National Park website or by calling the recorded Road and Weather Hotline at 360-565-3131.
