Running

Celebrate summer’s end with Thursday 5K run

People wanting to take part in Thursday’s Thirsty Summer Nights 5-kilometer run at Titlow Park can save some money if they register Sunday (Aug. 16).

The fee will be $10, then jumps to $15 if you register Monday or Tuesday. The fee is $20 the day of the race.

The run is a chance to celebrate as summer begins to wind down with a run followed by a 21-and-older social at The Beach Tavern. Beverages and food are not included in the registration fee. Families can indulge in root beer floats and smoothie samples.

The run is open for all-ages. Dogs are welcome, but they must be on a leash. Strollers are not allowed in the run.

The park is at 8425 Sixth Ave., Tacoma. Check-in begins at 5 p.m., and the run begins at 7 p.m.

Cycling

Ride Green River Trail with volkssport club

The Capital Volkssport Club does more than organize walks. The group also holds bicycle rides.

The next event will be Aug. 25 when participants will ride along the Green River trail in Tukwila.

The 25-kilometer ride will start at 9:30 a.m. at the Hampton Inn, 7200 S. 156th St., Tukwila. The ride will take 2-3 hours.

After the ride, participants will have lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Paul Bunyan Club holds annual youth day

The Paul Bunyan Rifle & Sportsman’s Club will hold its annual youth day Aug. 29. The event is free for children 18 and younger.

The day provides an opportunity to shoot a shotgun, rifle and muzzleloader; learn archery; orienteering; and firearm safety. Beginners are welcome

The firearm instruction will be given and supervised by hunter education instructors certified by the state Department Fish and Wildlife and National Rifle Association.

Participants should arrive at 8:30 a.m. to register, and the event will run from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

A free lunch will be provided for participants only. Lunch for nonparticipants will be available for a donation
