Gear item of the week for Aug. 29

LightRunner armband

THE SITUATION: Nighttime visibility is a concern for any runner after dark, especially as the days begin to grow shorter.

AN ANSWER: Griffin Technology’s LightRunner armband can hold smartphones and other devices up to 4.7 inches and is equipped with LED-illuminated piping to ensure you’re seen. The light engages with a push button and can be programmed as a constant, fast flash or slow-flash pattern.

THE DETAILS: The band itself is comfortable for long jogs, with a neoprene band that flexes to securely fit most arm sizes. Its holder, which is made from a combination of gTex cloth and rubber, provides impact resistance that keeps devices safe.

Unlike many armbands that don’t work well with touchscreens, the Lightrunner’s window is sensitive enough to enable fingerprint scanners.

Compatible with iPhone models 4, 4S, 5c, 5s and 6; Motorola Droid Mini, Motorola Moto X 1st and 2nd generations; and HTC one.

PRICE: $39.99.
