Sports Movies: Overrated, underrated and ones you just can’t stand
We’ve been around two weeks without sports and while production in my personal adulthood responsibilities have gone up at an alarming rate, the sports void has been a struggle to be filled.
Watching old games via YouTube, TV, and various league networks have helped. Playing video games have also been an interesting guide as well. When it feels like those wells have run dry, I may find a sports movie on Netflix, Amazon Prime, or any other streaming service you choose. While skimming through one of the streaming sites for a movie to watch, I wondered to myself what’s considered an overrated and overrated sports movie.
In a moment of genius (or stupidity), I posed the question to Twitter with just one simple tweet and asked two questions...
What movie is the most overrated sports movie?
What movie is the most underrated sports movie?
A simple question spawned an evening of entertainment, debate, and hilarity while people heaped praise or decided to air grievances for sports movies.
No love for Field of Dreams, Rudy, or Hoosiers
Goon and The Damned United were often deemed underrated
Annnnd some people just used this as a chance to air sports movie grievances.
Some people went to the archives to unearth some films people might’ve not heard of in a while
Here are three of my most overrated, underrated and movies I’d highly recommend that you might’ve not hear much about.
Most Overrated
Hoosiers (1986)
Rudy (1993)
Remember the Titans (2000)
Most Underrated
Glory Road (2006)
The Wrestler (2008)
Above The Rim (1994)
Movies you’ve gotta see as a sports fan
Ford vs. Ferrari (2019)
When We Were Kings (1996)
North Dallas Forty (1979)
Let us know what sports flicks you think are overrated, underrated and ones that could be considered hidden gems.
