Mariners MLB The Show simulation: Another extra inning affair for the Mariners and Athletics
MLB The Show 20 Simulation: May 6, 2020
Seattle Mariners (11-27) vs. Oakland Athletics (20-18)
A win by Seattle today could mean a few firsts. Winning the series vs. Oakland gives Seattle their first series win of the season. In addition to that, a win would mean back to back wins for the first time since March. So yes despite being 11 games back in the AL West, there is some importance for the Mariners going into the rubber match.
Today’s pitching matchup
Nick Margevicius (SEA)
1-3 (3.82 ERA)
Vs.
Daniel Mengden (OAK)
3-4 (5.40 ERA)
Game Highlights
-Oakland took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning, so what does Seattle do in response? Daniel Vogelbach hits another home run. His team-leading eighth of the season. We got a tie ballgame. (1-1)
-A pair of base hits in the bottom of the fifth gives Oakland the lead back and perhaps may test a tired Mariners bullpen as a few arms get loose. (Oakland 3-1)
-Seattle get one run back as Carlos Gonzalez hits a home run to deep right field to make the score 3-2 Oakland in the top of the seventh. One underrated feature about Gonzalez season so far is he’s hitting above the .400 mark with a .404 average. (3-2 Oakland)
-Down just one run in the ninth inning, the Mariners have exactly who you want coming up in this situation.
Haniger
Vogelbach
Gonzalez
Haniger lines a double in between shortstop and third base, Vogelbach’s flyout reaches the warning track but now Seattle is down to two outs as they try to stay alive. Gonzalez sends a pitch to left field now Seattle’s got runners on 1st and 2nd with one out.
Oakland almost gets a game-ending double play but the throw to second takes the shortstop off the base, loading them with just one out.
With a full count and the game on the line, Tom Murphy’s sacrifice fly scores a run and the game is tied. (3-3)
-Just like the Mariners had in their half of the ninth, Oakland has the bases loaded with two outs. Oakland cannot get the winning run across so we go to the tenth inning. Tied at 3.
A’s win it in the bottom of the 10th inning. Not even gonna post the highlight. That’s just one you wanna get off the field ASAP.
