Tracking Ryan Moore at the British Open for July 16, 2015

This week: The British Open, Thursday through Sunday, The Old Course at St. Andrews, St. Andrews, Scotland

First-round score: 2-over-par 74.

Position: Tied for 109th, nine strokes behind leader Dustin Johnson (65).

Recap: It seems like Moore often gets on the bad side of the weather draw at the British Open, and Thursday was no exception. With the wind kicking up and temperatures dropping dramatically, Moore made 12 consecutive pars until he made a double bogey at No. 13, a par-4 hole that was playing into the wind. He made a birdie at No. 16 but dropped the shot again with a bogey at the Road Hole — a long par 4 that yielded no birdies and that many players, including Moore, could not reach in two shots. It was the highest opening score he has had at the British Open.

Tee time Friday: 1 a.m. (PDT) with Hiroyuki Fujita and Stephen Gallacher.
