Tracking local golfers on the PGA Tour for July 30-Aug. 2, 2015
This week: Quicken Loans National, Thursday through Sunday, Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, Gainesville, Virginia.
In the field: Olympia’s Andres Gonzales and University Place’s Michael Putnam.
World rankings: Putnam is 277th, and Gonzales is 301st.
2014-15 earnings: Gonzales has $776,535 (107th on the PGA Tour), and Putnam has $542,996 (146th on the PGA Tour).
The skinny: Both locals had high finishes at last week’s RBC Canadian Open, with Putnam (11-under-par 277) tying for 11th and Gonzales (9-under 279) tying for 22nd. Now it’s on to the FedEx Cup points watch. With up to three tournaments remaining, Gonzales appears comfortably in the playoffs — and retaining his PGA Tour card for next season — with 451 points, ranking 110th on tour. Putnam, on the other hand, could use another big week. He has 395 points, which has him right outside the top 125 (128th). Putnam tied for 24th at the Quicken Loans National last season when it was held at Congressional Country Club.
Tee times Thursday: Putnam at 4:15 a.m. (PDT) off the first tee, and Gonzales at 4:37 a.m. off the 10th tee.
