Anthony Edwards Sends Strong Message About Nuggets Rivalry

Anthony Edwards and the No. 6 seed Minnesota Timberwolves will matchup against Nikola Jokic and the No. 3 seed Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA playoffs, reigniting a rivalry between familiar postseason foes.

In the 2024 NBA playoffs, Edwards and the Timberwolves sent the Nuggets home with a 98-90 final score in Game 7 of their second-round series. Minnesota stole both Game 1 and Game 2 on Denver’s home court, and finished off the series with another road victory at Denver’s Ball Arena.

In 2023, the Nuggets defeated the Timberwolves in the first round - ultimately going on to win their first NBA title in franchise history.

Edwards was asked if he considers the Nuggets a rival after practice on Wednesday.

“Yeah, for sure. I don’t think there’s anything else to call it but a rivalry,” Edwards said. “I think there’s a lot of rivalries in the league now. And I think me and Denver is one of them.”

The Nuggets claimed victory in each of their first three matchups against the Timberwolves this past NBA regular season. In a 142-138 overtime victory over Minnesota on Christmas Day, Jokic recorded a monster 56-point, 16-rebound, 15-assist triple-double.

The Timberwolves won the last regular-season matchup of the year, beating the Nuggets with a 117-108 final score on March 1. Edwards finished that game with a team-high 21 points, shooting 9/19 from the field and 3/9 from behind the 3-point arc.
