Chicago Sky's Post-Angel Reese Draft Class Banking on Potential, Says ESPN

The Chicago Sky have done some serious roster revamping in the weeks since they traded star forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream.

In addition to center Kamilla Cardoso, and guards Cortney Vandersloot and Hailey Van Lith, the Sky also added seven-time All-Star and six-time All-WNBA selection Skylar Diggins, 2024 WNBA All-Rookie Team selection and No. 4 overall pick Rickea Jackson, former first-team WNBA All-Defensive Team selection Dijonai Carrington, and former top-five pick Jacy Sheldon.

Chicago also loaded up on high-upside talent in the 2026 WNBA draft, adding UCLA shooting guard and national champion Gabriela Jaquez with the fifth overall pick, Ole Miss power forward Latasha Lattimore with the 21st overall pick, and Kentucky point guard Tonie Morgan with the 32nd overall pick.

Because all three players aren't ready to step into an immediate starting role, ESPN's Michael Voepel gave the Sky's draft class a B- grade, though he did point out it's a class built on potential and not immediate impact.

"This draft’s success for the Sky depends on two things: Will Jaquez live up to the promise of a No. 5 pick, and will Lattimore be the best version of herself that we saw in her last two seasons of college?" Voepel wrote. "Jaquez brings a ton of energy to an organization that really needs that kind of player; she could quickly become a fan favorite.

"Lattimore is well traveled; she started her college career at Texas, then played at Miami, Virginia and Ole Miss. Her best statistical season was with the Cavaliers, but she had some good moments this past season with the Rebels, too. Morgan played just one season at Kentucky after three at Georgia Tech, standing out in 2025-26 with her 7.9 assists average."

With Reese gone, Diggins takes over as the face of the team, and Jackson gives them another young, talented foundational player along with Cardoso to build around.

Cardoso was the third overall pick in the 2024 draft, and Jackson was picked one spot behind her by the Los Angeles Sparks, who traded her to Chicago this offseason.
