Cowboys Make $28 Million Decision on Brandon Aubrey

The Dallas Cowboys made a bold financial move on Monday, agreeing to a record deal with kicker Brandon Aubrey.

According to Adam Schefter, the franchise signed Aubrey to a four-year, $28 million extension. The contract makes him the highest-paid kicker in NFL history.

The deal sets a new benchmark for the position. Aubrey will earn $7 million per year, becoming the first kicker to reach that mark. The contract also includes $20 million guaranteed, showing strong commitment from Dallas. It surpasses the previous record held by Ka'imi Fairbairn, who earned $6.5 million annually.

This move stands out given Aubrey's rapid rise.

Aubrey entered the NFL as an undrafted player and initially played on a low-value deal. Dallas had placed a restricted free agent tender on him earlier this offseason. The new extension now secures him as a long-term piece.

Aubrey delivered strong numbers in the 2025 season. He scored 155 total points, ranking among the league leaders. He converted 36 of 42 field goals and led the NFL in made kicks from 50-plus yards. His long-range ability included multiple 60-yard field goals, setting new records.

The Cowboys' decision reflects trust in consistency and special teams impact. Despite a 7–9–1 finish in 2025, the team's offense remained productive. However, defensive struggles hurt their playoff chances.

By locking in Aubrey, Dallas ensures stability in a key area. The move also signals a shift in how teams value elite kickers. For the Cowboys, it is both a reward for performance and an investment in future close-game situations.
