Jerry Jones Confirms Plan For Trade Calls During NFL Draft

For better or worse, nobody works the phones quite like Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. And with the NFL Draft just hours away, the three-time Super Bowl champion is ready to pick up the phone - a lot - for anyone with a good deal for him.

Speaking to the media this week, Jones confirmed that the Cowboys have received calls from teams interested in draft day trades. However, Jones was more iffy on the idea of making calls to other teams.

"I don't know that. I don't know that," Jones said, via ProFootballTalk.

As for why Jones prefers to receive calls rather than make them, he admitted that the deals are usually better when he fields calls than makes offers.

"They're usually better, candidly, coming in than going out. The results are better for us," Jones said.

The Cowboys in the 2026 NFL Draft

This year's draft marks the first time since 2008 that the Cowboys will have multiple picks in the first round of the draft. It's the first time since 2005 that both picks are inside the top-20.

Dallas earned their regular first-round pick by going 7-9-1 in a difficult season marked by an historically bad defense. Their other first round pick comes courtesy of the Green Bay Packers from last year's blockbuster Micah Parsons trade.

But the Cowboys will be without a second-round pick in this year's draft or a first-round pick in next year's draft due to their trade for Quinnen Williams in the middle of last season.

Defense is pretty clearly the top priority for a Cowboys team that literally ranked last in points allowed and passing yards allowed last season. If they can get a star cornerback (or several if we're being honest), they might have a chance to turn things around quickly.

The Cowboys have their superb duo of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens for exactly one more year before Pickens is slated to hit free agency and most likely leave for good. If they can't make the most of that pair this year, next year's draft could be a tough one to endure.
