Tennis Fans Heartbroken Over Carlos Alcaraz Missing The French Open

Unfortunately for tennis fans around the world, Carlos Alcaraz will be away from the spotlight for an extended period of time.

A little over a week ago, Alcaraz withdrew from the Barcelona Open due to a wrist injury. That decision immediately sparked speculation about his status for Roland Garros. Well, the seven-time Grand Slam champion announced on Friday afternoon that he won't be able to defend his title.

"After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros as we wait to evaluate the progress so we can decide when to return to the court," Alcaraz wrote on Instagram. "This is a difficult time for me, but I am sure we will come out of it stronger."

This is a crushing development for Alcaraz, who defeated Jannik Sinner in last year's French Open final. Their match lasted five hours and twenty nine minutes.

Alcaraz was the odds-on favorite (+115) to win this year's French Open. Now that he's officially out, Sinner will be the overwhelming favorite to win the title.

Tennis fans devastated for Alcaraz.

"Like, completely makes sense health-wise, you absolutely NEED to make sure that wrist is alright, gotta' prioritise that for long-term career length stuff... But still," tennis commentator Scott Barclay said. "Crushing. That final last year is one of my favourite matches of all time."

"Take good care of yourself and recover soon, Carlitos. We'll be waiting for you," a fan commented. "Without you, tennis just isn't the same, but health comes first."

"Tough call, but the right one," a second fan said. "Your health comes first, and a strong comeback takes patience. We'll be waiting for you to return stronger, Carlos Alcaraz."

"This is so heartbreaking," another fan wrote.

Tennis fans will certainly miss seeing Alcaraz's creativity on the court. We're hoping he makes a full and speedy recovery.
