Blue Jays' John Schneider Announces George Springer Update After 14 Missed Games

George Springer has now missed 14 straight games for the Toronto Blue Jays with a fractured left toe. The 36-year-old veteran has been one of Toronto's biggest injury absences, and without him the team has struggled to find consistency.

Springer was not producing at his usual level before the injury, but his track record suggests he is still capable of making an impact. Just last season, he delivered one of the best years of his career, hitting .309 with a .399 on-base percentage, .959 OPS, 32 home runs and 84 RBIs across 140 games.

He earned his third career Silver Slugger Award, finished seventh in American League MVP voting and helped lead Toronto to its first World Series appearance in over three decades.

Springer has continued to make steady progress in his recovery. On Monday, he was seen taking live batting practice and going through a full set of on-field baseball activities, a strong indication he may not need a rehab assignment before returning.

Ahead of Tuesday's game against the Boston Red Sox, manager John Schneider provided another encouraging update.

Schneider said Springer simply needs to continue hitting and running, and if he avoids setbacks, he will be activated for Wednesday's series finale against Boston (h/t Keegan Matheson of MLB.com).

For the Blue Jays, this is significant. Getting another impact bat back in the lineup is crucial, especially with outfielder Addison Barger and catcher Alejandro Kirk also working their way back from the 10-day injured list.

Springer remains one of the most accomplished players of his generation, a four-time All-Star who has spent 13 MLB seasons between the Houston Astros and Blue Jays.

Even as he ages, Springer showed last year that he can still perform at an elite level, and the Blue Jays need that version of him to help climb out of the early hole they have created. His return could be the spark Toronto has been waiting for.
