New Snow Hits Colorado Before Closing Weekend

Although it had a bit of a bumpy start and remained questionable throughout, Colorado's ski season is finishing on a strong note in Summit County. Both Copper Mountain and Arapahoe Basin, which will celebrate their closing days this weekend, picked up a late-season refresh right in time for folks to enjoy the last bit of winter.

Arapahoe Basin, which will stop spinning lifts for the season on May 3, picked up 10" of new snow this week and should see a few more inches heading into closing weekend. A-Basin is known for one of the longest seasons in the state, but low snow has cut it a bit short this year. In consolation, the mountain is throwing a heck of a party for its last weekend of operations for the season, which should be complete with some fresh snow.

From April 27 to the end of the season, lift tickets are only $39 at Arapahoe Basin. Skiers are invited to dress up in honor of their favorite 'May Basin' holiday, as the mountain won't be hitting the dates for celebrations like Swimwear Day, Derby Day, Denim Day, and May the Fourth.

Saturday and Sunday of closing weekend will have live music at the base of the mountain from 12 p.m.-3 p.m., and 6th Alley will serve up beer specials.

Copper Mountain has also received a little late-season refresh, with 10" of snow falling since Monday and another 3" forecasted before the weekend. Copper is also closing for the season on May 3, after extending their season.

On Friday, May 1, anyone with a lift ticket to Copper, Copper Mountain Pass, or IKON Pass is invited to enjoy after-hours party laps. From 4 p.m.-7 p.m., the American Eagle and Excelerator pods will spin for springtime, sunset turns. A DJ will play at Aerie Bar for an epic, season-ending après.

Enjoy those last few lift-accessed turns, Colorado skiers!
