Prep Highlights: Skyview softball dedicates new scoreboard, then lights it up in 11-2 win over Camas
The first final posted on Skyview softball's new scoreboard was a Storm win.
Skyview unveiled its new scoreboard during a pregame ceremony before beating Camas 11-2 in a clash of Class 4A Greater St. Helens League softball leaders on Wednesday.
The ceremony honored American Legion Post 176 in Salmon Creek, which raised money for the scoreboard. John Lawrence, operations manager for Post 176, threw out the first pitch.
In pregame remarks, Skyview coach Kim Anthony recalled Lawrence saying Skyview needed a scoreboard worthy of a state championship program. The new board honors last year's team, which won the Class 4A state championship for the first title in program history.
Wednesday's win gives Skyview (11-2 overall, 4-1 league) a one-game lead over Camas with four games left in league play.
Storm pitcher Madison Paik allowed just four hits and two walks over six innings. Skyview scored in each of the first four innings to take a 6-0 lead before putting the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth.
Taylor Lies, Sophia Chambers and Audrey Jackson each had two hits for Skyview.
Beth Conger went 2 for 3 for Camas, which fell to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in league play.
