Carlos Mendoza Update: Mets President Makes Decision After One Month

The New York Mets are choosing to stick with manager Carlos Mendoza despite one of the roughest starts in the organization's history. The team finds itself in last place in the AL East and with the worst record in the league.

While speaking with Joel Sherman of the New York Post, David Stearns, the Mets' president of baseball operations, remained confident in Mendoza's ability to carry the team back from the slump they find themselves in. "We don't view this as a manager problem, and we don't intend to make a change," Stearns said.

Mendoza, who is on his third season managing the Mets, has led the Mets to back-to-back winning seasons, despite the team missing the playoffs during the 2025 MLB season. In his first year as the Mets manager, Mendoza led the team all the way to the NLCS, where they would fall short to the Los Angeles Dodgers in six games.

After a promising 7-4 start for the Mets this season, it seemed as if Mendoza found the solution to everything that went wrong near the end of the season. However, the team would instead find themselves sinking faster than anyone would have expected.

After defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks in extra innings on April 7, the Mets would go on a 12-game losing streak, suffering defeats to the Athletics, the Dodgers, the Chicago Cubs, and the Minnesota Twins. After pulling off two straight wins and taking the series against the Twins, it looked like the Mets' luck was taking a turn for the better.

Unfortunately, the Mets could still not find themselves, losing all three games in the series against the Colorado Rockies. Since defeating the Twins, the Mets have only wone one out of their last six games.

Mendoza has been on the hot seat ever since last season when the Mets failed to make the playoffs despite a strong start to the season. With the team finding itself in the bottom of the division, one could imagine that Mendoza might find himself out of a managerial job soon if he doesn't turn the team around.

One of the biggest issues Mendoza has dealt with this season is the absence of Francisco Lindor. Despite the team lacing in offense, Lindor has been one the Mets' highlights this season.

Without Lindor in the starting lineup, Mendoza has been unable to find anyone else to help the team find its rhythm. The addition of Bo Bichette to the team has done little for the team offensively, and with the season moving quickly, Mendoza has to do whatever it takes to help the team at least reach a winning record, otherwise, Mendoza's time with the Mets could come to an end.
