Russell Wilson at a Crossroads: NFL Future Unclear as TV Opportunity Emerges

It's safe to say Russell Wilson hasn't been the same player since being traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos in 2022. Now 37 years old, he is currently an unrestricted free agent.

While he could still explore opportunities around the league - likely in a backup role - another career path appears to be emerging for the former Super Bowl champion.

According to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, Wilson is weighing his NFL future while in deep discussions about a potential move into television with CBS' NFL Today.

"Russell Wilson is in deep discussions to go into television, which could mark the end of what is likely a Hall of Fame career as an NFL quarterback," Marchand reported.

He would likely fill the vacancy left by Matt Ryan, who stepped away to take a front office role with the Atlanta Falcons.

CBS declined to comment on the discussions when contacted by The Athletic. As of now, Wilson is still considering whether to continue playing, but if he decides to step away, CBS appears to be the leading destination, with the two sides reportedly engaged in "lengthy discussions."

Wilson spent last season briefly as the starter for the New York Giants but was benched early in the year in favor of rookie Jaxson Dart.

Since entering free agency, he also drew interest elsewhere, including a recent visit with the New York Jets as a potential backup to Geno Smith - a role that would have marked his fourth team in four years, something he may no longer be eager to pursue at this stage of his career.
