May 1-Maggie Kender threw a five-inning one hitter with eight strikeouts as the Seton Catholic softball team beat Kalama 17-0 to wrap up the Trico League title.

Kylie McMaster was 2 for 3 with a home run, Keely Spanik was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Jocelyn Kender was 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI, and Addie Seymer was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI for the Cougars.

Big win for River

Ryan Chatham pitched seven solid innings, allowing just five hits, as the Columbia River baseball team beat Mark Morris 4-1 in Longview.

Greg Blau had a two-run single and Charley Eisenhauer was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Rapids.

The win allowed the Rapids to remain tied with Ridgefield for first place in the 2A Greater St. Helens League.

With two games next week against last-place Hockinson to end league play and a head-to-head season sweep of Ridgefield, Columbia River is in good position to secure the No. 1 seed to the District 4 playoffs.

Ridgefield will finish league play with two games against third-place Mark Morris.

Kelso, Prairie softball tied atop 3A GSHL

A passed ball in the top of the seventh inning helped give the Kelso softball team a 3-2 win over Prairie on Friday and create a tie atop the 3A Greater St. Helens League with the Falcons.

With two league games remaining, both Kelso and Prairie are 5-1 in league and 11-6 overall. Kelso has won its last seven games, while Prairie saw its seven-game win streak snapped.

Kelso started the top of the seventh with Brianna Wesemann drawing a walk. Arianna Hartt went in to run for Wesemann and stole second base. She advanced to third on a passed ball with Brylee Lafever at the plate. Lafever would strike out.

With Skylar Richie batting for Kelso, Hartt scored on a passed ball to break a 2-2 tie that Prairie forced in bottom of the sixth on Payton Miller's two-run home run.

Prairie did get a runner into scoring position in the bottom of the seventh with one out, but the game ended on a fly out and a pop up.

Kelso pitcher Kylie Killett struck out 14 batters without issuing a walk, and Prairie's Mackenzie Moore had 13 strikeouts and two walks. Both pitchers allowed five hits.
