Indiana Fever Have One Spot Available After Three WNBA Roster Cuts

The Indiana Fever entered training camp last April with 16 players on their roster. Aside from their returning players featuring Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull, Sophie Cunningham, Damiris Dantas and Mikayla Timpson, the team brought in free agent signings Monique Billings, Ty Harris, Myisha Hines-Allen and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough.

Indiana selected three players in the 2026 WNBA Draft: Raven Johnson, Justine Pissott and Jessica Timmons. All three were named to the training camp roster.

Lastly, Kayana Traylor and Megan McConnell joined the Fever on training camp contracts.

However, since the Fever can only carry 12 players on their active roster for the 2026 season, the team had to make the tough decision to release some of them.

On Wednesday, Indiana officially waived Traylor, McConnell and the rookie Timmons. With the decision, the Fever cut their roster to 13 players.

While some fans might think that Indiana will have to release one more player to meet the WNBA's 12-player requirement, that's not really the case.

It's worth noting that through the new WNBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, teams get two additional roster spots. However, these spots are designated as part of a team's player development pool and do not count as a standard roster spot.

The developmental roster spots are available for players with zero to three years of WNBA experience. Players under this pool can join their respective teams in trainings and receive pay and other development support, but they can only be activated for up to 12 games during the regular season.

The Fever already signed Pissott to a player development contract last April, which means they still have one more spot to use.

It remains to be seen which player the Fever will give the spot to. It's possible that they bring back Traylor, McConnell or Timmons once they clear waivers, but it's also possible that they look elsewhere.

Indiana opens its season at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday against the Dallas Wings.
