Yankees' Spencer Jones Makes Very Specific MLB History

On Thursday, MLB senior reporter Mark Feinsand reported that the New York Yankees “are planning to call up” outfielder Spencer Jones, one of the organization’s best prospects.

The Yankees selected Jones out of Vanderbilt with the 25th pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, and he has been setting the minor leagues on fire. Jones won the 2025 Kevin Lawn Award, given to the Yankees’ best minor-league position player, and he carried that momentum into this season. Per Feinsand, Jones has hit 11 home runs and 41 RBI with a .958 OPS in 33 games for the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate.

If Jones’ big-league dream is finally about to come true, it’s unfortunately coming at the expense of Jasson Domínguez, who crashed into the wall at Yankee Stadium on Thursday and sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder. Per ESPN’s Jorge Castillo, Domínguez is headed to the injured list “for a few weeks.”

MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch reported that Jones would join the Yankees for their series in Milwaukee this weekend, so Yankees fans will have to rely on TV (or streaming) to watch their fantasy of Jones and Aaron Judge manning the outfield together.

According to MLB stats extraordinaire Sarah Langs, a Jones-Judge outfield will automatically make MLB history: “The Yankees will be the first MLB team on record with multiple position players 6 -foot-7 in or taller in a season.”

Jones and Judge are each officially listed at 6-foot-7.

The Yankees beat the Texas Rangers, 9-2, earlier Thursday to improve to 6-1 in May. Their 26-12 overall record is tied with the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs for the best record in MLB. Judge leads the majors with 15 home runs.
