Prep Highlights: Ridgefield tops Columbia River 2-1 to claim No. 2 seed to district softball tournament

May 8-Abbey Hite singled home Tava Whitlow in the bottom of the fifth and Faith Smith did the rest from the pitching circle, leading the Ridgefield softball team to a 2-1 win over Columbia River in a 2A Greater St. Helens League tiebreaker game Friday at Skyview High School.

With the win, the Spudders claim the No. 2 seed and will open the 2A District 4 tournament on Thursday against the winner of Tuesday's play-in game between Tumwater and Hockinson.

River will open district against Aberdeen. The 2A district tournament will be held at Recreation Park in Chehalis.

After Ridgefield loaded the bases on a walk and two singles to open the bottom of the fifth, Bailey Wolksi tied the game at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly.

Hite then followed by singling home Whitlow with the go-ahead run.

Smith finished off the win by holding River to one run on just three hits - all three hits were by Emily Hull.

R.A. LONG 17, HOCKINSON 12 - Edie Korpi went 4 for 4 with a double, home run and six RBI as R.A. Long won a tiebreaker game at Woodland.

R.A. Long advances as the 2A GSHL No. 5 seed and will host Black Hills on Tuesday in a district play-in game.

Hockinson is the No. 6 seed and will travel to face Tumwater in the other district play-in game on Tuesday.

Korpi also struck out 14 batters to pitch R.A. Long to victory. Allisyn Watson went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBI for Hockinson.

Baseball

COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 4, HOQUIAM 3 - Kellen Olson pitched 6.2 solid innings and delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning, sending Columbia-White Salmon to a win in the 1A District 4 play-in game.

The Bruins advance to the double-elimination district bracket and will play at Seton Catholic on Monday in the first round.

Ryder Graves had an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3 before Olson followed with his go-ahead hit.

Olson did not allow an earned run while striking out five and walking one. Garrick Sauter came in to get the last out with two on in the top of the seventh.

Boys soccer

STADIUM 1, CAMAS 0 - The Papermakers lost in a quarterfinal match in the 4A bi-district tournament.

Camas will now need to win two loser-out games to reach the state playoffs, the first coming on Tuesday against the winner of Union-Mount Rainier.

No other details from Friday's match were reported.
