Fever Star Lexie Hull Bracing For Punishment After Wings Game
Lexie Hull and the Indiana Fever opened the 2026 WNBA regular season on Saturday afternoon, hosting Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Hull began her fifth WNBA season coming off the bench, with guards Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham and Kelsey Mitchell receiving the starting nods.
Hull has become a key rotation piece for the Fever during her WNBA career. And last season was her best, averaging 7.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 27.0 minutes per game, appearing in 44 contests with 30 starts. Hull's play in 2025was good enough to earn her a two-year, $1.56 million contract extension over the offseason.
With about 2:30 remaining in the second quarter, Mitchell cut the Fever's deficit to 47-46 after knocking down a pair of free throws. On the ensuing Wings possession, Bueckers brought the ball up the court with Hull defending her the entire way. However, the former Stanford guard became too aggressive and was called for a personal foul.
Hull was not pleased with the call and exchanged words with the official who blew the whistle before waving the referee off. She was assessed a technical foul for her reaction, allowing Bueckers to extend Dallas' lead at the free-throw line.
With her first technical foul of the season, Hull can expect a $500 fine, assuming the technical isn't rescinded. Under the WNBA's new CBA, fines are significantly higher than in previous years. Players are fined $500 for each of their first three technical fouls, with the amount doubling to $1,000 for technicals 4–7. At eight technical fouls, a player receives a $1,500 fine plus a one-game suspension, with an additional one-game suspension for every two technical fouls after that (10, 12, 14, etc.).
"Lexie Hull just got a tech after she argued with a ref about a foul then waved him off," IndyStar's Chloe Peterson wrote on X. "Bueckers makes the technical free thro, and Wings lead, 48-46."
