Spurs' Devin Vassell Sends Warning About Victor Wembanyama
Victor Wembanyama will return to the court on Tuesday night as the San Antonio Spurs face off against the Minnesota Timberwolves in a Game 5 matchup.
Wembanyama was ejected early in the second quarter of Sunday’s Game 4 loss to the Timberwolves after delivering a hard elbow to the jaw of Minnesota forward Naz Reid. But, he avoided suspension as the NBA elected to pursue no further punishment against the unanimous Defensive Player of the Year.
Spurs guard Devin Vassell says Wembanyama is “upset” and “ready to go” - a dangerous combination.
“That’s what we need. We need an upset Vic who’s ready to go and attack the game. We’ve seen it before. We’ve seen when Vic gets upset,” Vassell said.
Vassell was likely referencing Wembanyama’s Game 4 performance against the Portland Trail Blazers, where he recorded 27 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks. That was his first game back after vocalizing his frustrations with the NBA’s concussion protocol, which held him off the court in Game 3.

While Vassell is excited to see an aggressive Wembanyama, he acknowledged that the Spurs superstar needs to keep his emotions in check.
“We just need him to calm his emotions and make sure his emotions don’t take over,” Vassell added. “He can’t get any more flagrants. … Vic knows what he’s got to do.”
