Anthony Edwards Needs a Co-Star: 3 Best Targets For The Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves are officially out of the NBA playoffs, even though Anthony Edwards pushed his body past the limit to give his franchise the best chance at toppling the San Antonio Spurs.

It wasn’t enough.

In Game 6, Edwards tried his best, while his co-star and the team’s secondary scorer, Julius Randle, scored three points.

No, not 30 points.

Three points.

Randle went 1-4 from the field and scored an embarrassing three points in the elimination game against the Spurs.

Minnesota needs to find a true duo partner for Edwards this offseason, and here are its best three choices for who might be available in the summer.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Can you talk about athleticism? Edwards and the “Greek Freak” would be flying through the air like an acrobatic act at the circus. We already know Minnesota was hot on Antetokounmpo’s trail during the trade deadline, and it should be no different this offseason.

Kawhi Leonard

While Antetokounmpo will be the name everyone is looking at for the Timberwolves to try to strike a deal for, Leonard might be the best fit.

Imagine a trio of Rudy Gobert under the basket, Leonard patrolling the key, and then you have Edwards outside as the gunner and primary scorer with the two-time Finals MVP as the co-star.

Although it wouldn’t be as flashy as the Antetokounmpo trade, that won’t matter if they’re playing for a title next June.

LeBron James

You have to think about it, right? If James really wants to win a fifth ring and is open to taking a gigantic pay cut for the right time, why not the Timberwolves?

He can pass the torch to Edwards as the next great American player, be on a much deeper team than his current Lakers squad, and still feel like the leader, even if not the first option.

The Lakers are Luka Dončić’s team. While the Timberwolves are built around Edwards, if James joins, for that year or two he’s there, it’ll be his team.
